Trustees
The Morley Agricultural Foundation is a Charitable Trust run by a Board of Trustees appointed by an Advisory Council of 14 members which meets twice a year (normally in January and June) to discuss matters affecting the Foundation. The Board of Trustees currently includes the following members:
Nick Steed (Chairman)
Nick Steed has been involved with Morley for over thirty years. His career was in practical farm management and he has always been interested in the technical and production side of agriculture. He now works as a consultant with a local company.
He is very pleased that the Foundation is able to provide funding for quality research and development, and that it is helping young people develop their careers.
Philip Richardson
Philip retired as Chairman of The Arable Group (TAG) in Setember 2006 having overseen the creation of TMAF and the merger of Morley Research and Arable Research Centres to form TAG. Prior to this he was an Executive Committee member of Morley Research Centre for 15 years and Chair for 5 years. Until 2000 he ran an arable and livestock farm in central Norfolk. Following family re-organisation he currently retains the livestock unit. He has been active in agricultural politics for many years and currently chairs the Assured Food Standards Pig Sector Scheme.
Christine Hill
Christine is a director of a family farm in mid-Norfolk which grows combinable crops (mainly grass for seed), sugar beet, potatoes and dwarf beans and runs a small suckler beef enterprise. Having been a science teacher, she is particularly interested in agricultural education and research and was a member of the Governing Body at Easton College, Norfolk, for almost 19 years and was a Board member of the Morley Research Centre before joining the Morley Agricultural Foundation. She is also a director of the British Beet Research Organisation and a Council member of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association. She is also President of the Dereham Young Farmers Club. Christine takes particular interest in education linked projects for the Foundation. To date the Foundation has been involved in sponsorship of four PhD degrees and is involved with the Agricultural Department of Easton College.
Robert Salmon
Robert is a director of a 515 ha family farm in mid-Norfolk. The company also contract farms 570 ha for other local farmers. Cropping includes wheat, malting barley, oilseed rape, beans, oats, grass seed, sugar beet and blackcurrants. His main area of interest is improving soil structure. In 1996 Richard was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship, sponsored by the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, to study "The practice and financing of arable crops research and the dissemination of results". He is a director of TAG and, prior to that, served for a number of years on the Board of Morley Research Centre.
John Wallace
John Wallace farms at Coney Weston in North Suffolk growing Cereals, Sugar Beet, Oilseed Rape and Peas. In the past he has been a contractor to an organic farm and hosted a genetically modified sugar beet trial. He is a trustee of the Chadacre Agricultural Trust and a board member of Framlingham Farmers. John specialises in portfolio matters for the Foundation.
Mike Gamble
Mike Gamble is a Senior Partner in the Norwich based firm of Irelands, Agricultural Surveyors and Auctioneers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and a Member of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers. He is also a Member of the Corporation of Easton College and a Council Member of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association. Mike lives locally to Morley and has particular interest in the estate and property matters of the Foundation.
